"Search for Simplicity-- a must read article in Informationweek

informationweek.com

summarizes trends for larger business to standardize company-wide on a single vendor, as in Ford contract with Dell.

Highlights:

1. "PC life cycle has changed", Informationweek survey showing 51% of businesses will be replacing PC's more frequently. Concomitant trend to leasing to facilitate this replacement

2. Standardizing a powerful trend. Informationweek estimates 75% of large businesses will be standardized by the end of 1999, up from 60% in 1998 and 25% in 1997.

3. Standardizing will increase the market share of the top 4 vendors.

4. Standardizing saves businesses money. Group Health to announce deal with dell for 6500 computers, which *saved* GH $1mil

Read between the lines: 15% of businesses will be will be taking bids to replace *all* their PC's this year.

Any ideas on who might win a substantial portion of these bids?
