Let's see- took a tour guide out to dinner with her husband and child (boy-6)- the kid threw a shrimp at me (at a VERY expensive nice restaurant) parents laughed. Kid screamed at mother about one of the dishes on the table, mother laughed. Kid got under the table and began playing with our shoes. Parents laughed. Kid came behind me and yanked on my hair, parents laughed. All over China I saw children tugging their parents and grandparents around and having absolute fits when they didn't get what they wanted. I grant you one notices the very badly behaved more than the quiet children, but gosh, I didn't see a lot of quiet well behaved children. We went out with some friends and their child (boy) and found that they followed him around and catered to his whims. When he finally decided he was bored and wanted to go home that was the end of our outing.

Perhaps out experience was unusual.
