Good morning to AV8R and All.Very interesting,IMO:Shares of Texas Instruments (TXN) rose 8 1/8 to 110 5/8 after the company told analysts that it wouldn't be affected by slowdown in PC sales. Last week, PC stocks got hammed on concern that earnings for PC makers might not meet expectation. But management at TXN reassured analysts that they are on par to meet or exceed current quarter's earnings estimates. TXN is expected to show sequential EPS growth in the mid-single digit due to strong sales of its Digital-signal processors (DSPs). TXN controls 45% of the market share for DSPs, which are used in cell phones and computer modems. Management said that sales of DSPs would grow at a rate of 50%, which accounted for roughly 15% of overall sales. Management indicated that the primary goal of the company is to boost operating margin (profit after expenses) to 20%, up from current 16% rate. After the meeting, several analysts came away feeling good about prospects of TXN and reiterated their buy ratings. Prudential Securities believes that TXN could reach $120 in 12-months based on 30 times their fiscal 2000 earnings estimate of $4.00. Other analysts also made positive comments on the stock, which provided a boost to the entire semiconductor group.

Microsoft held an analyst meeting in San Francisco to update on e-commerce strategy in which the company said that it is introducing tools and software that other Web sites can use to perform various e-commerce functionality. Microsoft wants to introduce one standard such that various applications can "talk" to one another. Microsoft's goal is to sell new technologies to more than 1 million new businesses. This way, Microsoft would be able to sell more software and services and increase its market share. Analysts believe that Microsoft would be able to sell more NT and commerce servers because of this initiatives. Company also announced several other services, which would be offered through the Internet and it appears that the company is taking a much more active role in broadening its Internet presence. Several analysts were impressed with MSFT's Internet strategies and believe that such products and services could help the company generate growth rates upwards of 25%. Piper Jaffray has a "strong buy" rating on the stock and believes that MSFT should be part of core holdings of an individual investor's portfolio.

Montgomery Securities maintained their "hold" rating on Micron Technology (MU) on concern that DRAM price continued to tick down slightly. On Wednesday, Mar 3, price for 64 Mb 8x8 PC-100 fell to $9.10, down from $9.30 on 3/1 and $9.45 the week before. This is happening due to an increase in production by MU and that the transition from 0.25 to 0.21 micron is going slower than expected. Montgomery expects supply of DRAM to remain abundant into summer. MU's average selling price could be around $8.00, lower than $9.00 previously expected. MU's February quarter ended and the company would report earnings in couple of weeks and Montgomery would adjust earnings estimates and price targets after the announcement. In the meantime, they recommend holding on any new buying of the stock.

Not so bad:
1-Gorilla thinking for tools for E-commerce
2-Decrease of a key component price

I feel more bullish than a week ago.

BTW: and up the day after the split - looks good.

Best Wishes and regards to All
