No argument from me.

My No. 1 reason to hold IBM is the patent portfolio.

I'm just saying the laptops generate much better margins, and IBM leads there. A market worth holding.

I was throwing out ideas for other pc hardware product arenas IBM might like to hold. If IBM stopped making desktops and resold Dells instead, you would not here me second guessing management. After all, IBM resells palm pilots- makes sense not to try to beat your head on a brick wall standard. (Microsoft going "Bang! Bang! Bang! ~wince~ Bang! no, no... we meant "palm SIZED computers.. these are better, we say so." Bang! Bang! ~wince~)

Maybe I am misreading the tone of your post-

please understand me- this deal with Dell extends my optimism that the only reason I need to read this board is for fun and education- because IBM is a rock solid buy-and-hold. Quality revenues, good competetor to partner with. Mutual win.

Arrow Hd, good information as usual. Seems like IBM will play an important role on the desktop as well as the notebook area for a long time.
We need an internet type share burst. Did you ever get an answer to your question about Lou Gs next date with the analysts? I wish I knew.
Maybe Harry or Jules know and can provide some useful info for a change.... Sorry, I could not resist.

Regards,

Don
