Mark -- you are looking in the wrong place. Gold plays many roles -- one of them is as a currency. This role has been minimized, allowing shorts to play it as a commodity and make tons of money. The re-monetization of gold is the key to its potential as an investment -- and I am definitely not talking gold coins and Y2K here, I am talking central banks and big time speculators. When it moves it will rip a face or two and make a few people some real money. It is the ultimate speculative investment in a world grown more drawn to speculation every day -- witness the net stocks.
