Perhaps I am reading too much into these questionable media reporting activities with respect to Monsanto.

HOWEVER, please consider what has transpired in the UK. Misreporting with respect to Monsanto has become a political goal; indeed, "green party operatives" are apparently part of the UK press industry. They even tried to censure (remove free speech) from Monsanto, which is somewhat shocking to those who think of the UK as a western nation which is akin to the US in terms of principles.

...so I wouldn't be surprised to see an "anti-Monsanto operative or two" in the Wall Street press. What I am suggesting is if any aspect of this is ethically questionable, it may have more to do with "green influence" rather than trading influence...

A summary of how the "green party" works in the UK, for those unfamiliar:

1) Green party action groups (funded by organic industry, etc.) stage a "study" and publish questionable scientific results and "bad science" conclusions.

2) UK tabloids publish since they give front-page coverage to any story, regardless of source or credibility. Green party also attempts to discredit and censure Monsanto in UK tabloids.

3) Staged study generates unfounded public fear.

4) Green party action groups then poll the public, asking them if they wish the government to remove cause of fear. The public does not know they staged the study or perception of study.

5) Political pressure can now be exerted, since now the green party can claim the public has made an "outcry"...which is what they set up in the first place!

6) Organic groups get windfall in profits due to steps 1-5; new markets open up...green party has "earned" its backing.
