re novell and their nsd: novell is conducting a free market research study for microsoft. once the results of the study are in, microsoft will incorporate this feature in nt5/win2k without even a tip of the hat to the folks in utah. remember when everyone thought netscape would eat microsoft's lunch? or a bit farther back, novell (owner of dr dos) would eat microsoft's lunch? or geoworx / desqview / os2 would eat microsoft's lunch? all turned out to be microsoft marketing studies for which microsoft didn't have to pay a dime! it would make a great david & goliath story if novell really were to present a serious challenge to microsoft -- but i am betting on the whale to win this time around, and next time as well.
