03/08 02:06 Saudi Arabia gives qualified approval for Viagra

RIYADH, March 8 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia has approved controlled sales
of the anti-impotence drug Viagra in the kingdom, a year after the pill first
hit the U.S. market, Saudi media reported on Monday.

They said a Health Ministry committee in charge of drug registration
approved sales or Viagra with a prescription and under close monitoring.
Packages containing four tablets each in concentrations of 25 mg and 50
mg would be sold to customers.

The Pfizer Inc <PFE.N> drug was a hit on Saudi Arabia's black market
after it was first introduced last year, fetching as much as $80 a pill.

Saudi Arabia's Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul-Aziz bin Baz was quoted as
saying last year that Moslem men may use the drug if it was not harmful
to health and if did not contain any intoxicants.
