I called Toni Beckman...

My first question was regarding Mr. Raza's comment "Our shortfall in units for the quarter is a result of the lower yields in the first eight weeks of the quarter on the wafers started prior to implementing the design enhancements.". I asked about yields now, and she said they "see" improvement. I then asked her if they "see" improvement, or if they have improvement. She replied they "see" yield improvements of higher MHz processors. I then asked about the second quarter, and she said they "see" yield improvements of higher MHz processors.

I then asked a question on this comment in the press release "Raza also announced that the company has started production wafers on its seventh-generation processor, the AMD-K7(tm), which is scheduled for introduction in June." I asked if this meant that each good chip that comes off a wafer would actually be considered a production chip, and she said yes. So, fortunately, I guess Scumbria was a little pessimistic with his earlier comment. Next came questions about the K7's chipset. I asked whether a chipset will be available when the K7 comes out, and she replied yes, as if that was a dumb question. I told her I read on the internet that a motherboard manufacturer stated a K7 chipset wouldn't be available for some time, and she started to tell me about the agreement AMD had with ALI to make chipsets. So I again asked if AMD's K7 chipset would be delayed and she said AMD won't make any chipsets, unless they have to. She then told me again about the ALI and (I think) Via agreement. She said AMD just made (reference) chipsets for them to model their's after. She restated, with an assuring tone of voice, that AMD "will" have chipsets upon the K7's release.

I then asked if the bad yields also affected mobile chips, and she said the lower yields affected higher MHz processors only. I guess that means no.

What is there to make of this? I guess we will have to "see".

If you want to call her, dial the number at the bottom of this press release biz.yahoo.com. Her email address isn't stated in that press release, but I am sure you can figure it out after seeing the other two there.
