OK, here's my advice based on what you told me.

You don't need processor speed or huge hard disk to watch stocks and sales reports. I would put my money on screen size to avoid scrolling constantly. You can get a 15' display with an Inspiron 7000. As I said earlier 64 MB of memory is a minimum. Upgrade to 128 MB of memory if and when you upgrade to Windows 2000. Memory price goes down constantly, so there is no need to buy it now if you gonna you use it later. Make sure you can upgrade to 128 Meg. 4.3 or 6.4 Gig disk drive would be my choice.

Do you have a network at your office? Yes, then make sure that you get your laptop with a PCMCIA network card. You want to be able to connect your laptop to the office network. You can get combo cards that can get you both 56k modem and 10/100 Ethernet. See what DELL can offer you to meet both needs.

If you want to go with lower price laptop, I would advise you to avoid 13' screen size. It can be really irritating. 14' is a minimum.

Hopes it helps.
