AMD Tumbles After Hours on First-Quarter Warning By Heather Moore Staff Reporter 3/8/99 7:35 PM ET

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD:NYSE) shares fell to 17 from a close of 18 15/16 in after-hours trading following a warning of a "significant" first-quarter loss. The company cited a failure to meet its goal of shipping 5.5 million K-6 processors during the quarter and said that it will take charges during the second and third quarters to cut 300 positions. The 21-analyst First Call outlook called for a first-quarter loss of 9 cents a share vs. the year-ago loss of 39 cents. The company said it still expects to ship 20 million to 25 million microprocessors in 1999.

Hi Yousef with one "s"

I recently read an article that said that Intel had made the shift from 0.25 micron technology to 0.18 micron in record time-I think they said 1.75 years.

I am wondering what your opinion is about the next shift to 0.13. Will Intel be able to do it in about 2 years or is there some technical problems that might require longer? Do you think 0.13 and copper and 300 mm. will all happen at the same time or will there be stages?

Thanks

Andy
