Oh. Waht gave it that sheepskin look was the thick nap of shredded grassy residue which was too fine for the rake blades. First time I ever saw that.

When I was in grad school, the first-year residence was adjacent to a well-groomed golf course. The guys with the best parking spots occasionally suffered a Titleist Event upon theit auto bodies. Anyway, one of the holes was maybe a hundred yards from the front gate. I used to stroll out there barefoot. The lanes were like a nice lawn. Then the perimeter of the hole was trimmed down to an inch or so. But the central area of the hole was this awesome quarter-inch nap of dense grass. I don't know how they got that effect, and I don't know how much hard work and precious water is needed to maintain it.

If they let me golf barefoot, I might take the game up.
The golf course pond was a favorite roost of Canada geese however. One of the holes was definitely not barefoot-rated. Goose poo is nasty.
