SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 9, 1999--S3 announced today that it has secured 36
customers for its new Savage4 chip.
Estimated at more than $150 million in revenue, this new business comes from major PC OEM, motherboard
and add-in-card customers in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Japan (breakdown below.) In addition to
this $150 million revenue stream, the company anticipates revenue from older S3 products and from
additional Savage4 design wins expected throughout the year.

-- Three of the Top Five Worldwide PC OEMs Adopt Savage4. According
to data from IDC, the top five PC OEMs are Compaq, IBM, Dell,
Hewlett-Packard and Packard Bell/NEC. S3 has secured three of
these five high-volume PC suppliers -- but will not reveal
specific company names until the PC OEMs make their official
systems launches in mid-1999.

-- Five of the Top Ten Branded Add-in-Card Suppliers Worldwide.
According to data from Jon Peddie & Associates, S3 has secured
Savage4 design wins with five of the top ten AIC suppliers, which
include Diamond Multimedia, Creative Labs, ELSA, Number Nine and
Hercules.

-- 25 Additional AIC and Motherboard Suppliers Incorporate Savage4
in Asia Pacific and Europe, which include Samsung, Palit,
Gainward, Leadtek, AcerOpen, High-tech, Karma, Atrend, AsusTek,
Protac International Corp. and Sparkle, among others.

"We've had such wild success with Savage4, that it's not a question of who is designing in our new part --
it's a question of who isn't designing it in," said Ken Potashner, president and CEO of S3 Inc. "This is an exciting
time to be at S3 and we all look forward to the financial gains associated with that success -- and then
leveraging what we've learned to make forthcoming products just as successful."
