Rod,

Re: "Kinda like the warning on a pack of cigarettes if you ask me. Like
we needed to be warned?"

Welcome back, Rod ... Maybe that warning should be: "AMD can be hazardous
to your wealth". <ggg> Remember Rod ... "AMD Happens".

Make It So,
Yousef

<<Are they like, trying to make the stock go down >>

Of all the questionable moves this company has made, and there are no doubt many, to announce a job cut that effects roughly 1 out of 50 employees is very disturbing. Just how big is this "significant loss" which would justify them to give the appearance of attempted cost savings? A cut like this could have easily been accomplished through mere attrition, there was no need to weaken an already fragile reputation in the eyes of Wall Street and Main street unless of course we're being prepped for losses high even for amd. Don't get me wrong, as a holder of an economics degree, I appreciate perhaps more than most the impact amd has had on the computer industry. I even believe that those 12 million or so cpus sold last year were sales that did not reduce intc volume at all (perhaps even increased it, asps? --well thats another story), they singlehandedly brought the pc within reach of many who would not, in many cases could not, plunk down the ridiculously inflated prices the intc monopoly required. For this alone, they deserve tremendous praise from all corners and a continued (increased?) committment from the industry. Without the increased base (>90% consumers!) amd has created, many of these high flying internet stocks may have never gotten off the ground. There is tremendous need for this company to survive and hopefully thrive. But, the quality of their investors relations needs to seriously improve. There is a wide valley between "potential" losses and "significant losses" and once again amd has fumbled the ball.
I'm finished grumbling now and once again, I will probably maintain my Amd holdings, if for nothing else, for the sheer action they provide, kinda like Vegas (save the "at least you win sometimes in Vegas" jokes) and the previously mentioned reasons. But, if someone like Raza or Dirk M. were to leave, then we would all need to cover our ass, for without great technology this company would be s**t, as so eloquently offered by the humble yousef. Good day all, it was much less damaging than I expected.
