Amy, Re: What is Transmeta ?

I thought it is a company doing some secretive design
for MPU(?). Most people know this company not about
their design but that they hire the author of Linux and
no one knows what he is doing there.

Amy RE<<What is Transmeta>>

It is company who is designing a RISC based CPU which can run windows.

It is ironic that Linus Torvalds who wants to "beat" Microsoft with Linux is helping Transmeta to make a chip which runs Windows.

Amy -- Re: "What is Transmeta?"

Just what the article says - a "secretive" start up.

The VERY unreliable YUK Register did post the following a few weeks ago:

theregister.co.uk

Intel, Transmeta, Linus Torvalds in cahoots

A senior VP on the architecture front told The Register that Linus Torvalds, who now works for Transmeta, has worked for them in the past.

But not only that. According to the source, Intel has already booted the Linux operating system on a gate level. "We're very far along with the Linux discussions. There are very few people, however, who are export enough to port it."

Said Stephen Smith, architecture chief of the Merced programme: "We know Linus, we work with him and we've worked with him before. We have something to announce very shortly."

The source told The Register that our story about Microsoft developers and Intel developers falling out was not completely true. But he did say there was much more than a grain of truth in it. ®
