SR,

Let's not take our eyes off of SNE just yet.

I saw an analysis on what and where they intended to concentrate. The report said that one area that SNE was going to concentrate on is building up their computer systems area and use the tv/sound system/walkman units as 'cash cows'.

Now, this doesn't mean that a thorough financial review might reveal that further pursuit of DIeFuD could involve high redevelopment and testing expense followed by selling an unknown, un-consumer tested, un-channeled, risky for an oem to stake too much into other than as an 'option' listed on page seventeen of their product configuration offerings, device into a market against a rival that now has the de facto standard and name recognition. (wouldn't it be a hoot to hear the DIeFuD referred to as 'the Sony Zip thing').

But don't take you eyes off of them yet.... and I'm also confident that Jodie and the folks in the lab have some butcher knives in the freezer (new products) all ready to plunge (announce) at any time when it will be most effective... like they've done before. Remember the Zip250 announcement timing?...... ("I like this Duke." Pardot Kynes, Imperial Planetologist and Overseer of the Change - Arrakis, DUNE)

I also think that IOM is being smart not flooding the newswires with press releases or spending the valuable ad dollars all over the place right now, if they are straightening out a component constraint problem. Imagine the crap that would be flying all over the place if they had released tons of new items, beating the drums and whipping up demand for products that aren't or weren't available to be delivered when the consumers hit the stores......
