Telecommunications Technology Pioneer Bellcore Unveils New Name - Telcordia Technologies - and Next Generation Network Solutions Suite

Company Responsible for Design of Today's U.S. Telephone Network Sees
Next Generation Network as the Future of Telecommunications
Bellcore, the telecommunications pioneer responsible for designing the modern U.S. telecommunications system, today begins operating as Telcordia Technologies -- a new name reflecting the company's expertise in communications technology and its ability to reach "accord" among major communications service providers that allows seamless network interconnection.
The company also unveiled a suite of major Next Generation Network products and services to help service providers and new start-ups leverage the multi-billion dollar market erupting from the convergence of voice, video and data services. These products and services are designed to transform legacy networks into Next Generation Networks, and to drive powerful improvements in the speed, cost, scalability and adaptability of global communications.
As Bellcore, the company developed many of the core technologies integral to the evolution of communications networks, from circuit-switched, voice-only networks to packet-switched, high-speed broadband networks that are more efficient to build and less costly to operate.
As Telcordia Technologies, the company is leading in the development of Next Generation Networks that can deliver existing services (cable, Internet, voice and data service), as well as new offerings (e-commerce, unified messaging, voice over packet services) over a single network.

Telcordia Technologies Equals "Performance from Experience"
The line "Performance from Experience" in company communications will accompany the name Telcordia Technologies as a reference to the extraordinary role the company has played in the development of the world's telecommunications infrastructure. The bright blue banner within the Telcordia Technologies logo design provides a color connection to Telcordia's parent company Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). The new name is being unveiled at all company locations today, and will be supported via direct marketing, advertising and public relations efforts.
Commencing operations in 1984 as a consortium to provide engineering and administrative services to the Regional Bell Operating Companies, Bellcore pioneered many of today's widely deployed telecommunications services, such as caller name identification, call waiting and toll free numbers. As part of the contractual agreement related to the company's purchase in 1997 by SAIC, Bellcore was required to change its name. As Telcordia Technologies, the company offers more than 800 software solutions and holds more than 1,400 domestic and foreign patents.
