Mike Sheridan, Idea Man
Java Co-Creator Seeks Big Ideas At Novell

By David Martinez

Mike Sheridan is one of a handful of high-tech
luminaries who have already secured their places
among the true innovators of the information age. At
Sun Microsystems in the early 1990s, Sheridan
helped change the face of computing when he and
two co-workers created the Java programming
language.

But Sheridan isn't the type to rest on his laurels. He
is always eager for the chance to build new things,
create new products, nurture new ideas. And for the
past year, he has been doing just that for Novell as
vice president for strategic business.

"I think software companies are the places to be
right now," Sheridan told me in a recent interview.
"Hardware is being commoditized; the value-added
areas are in software. The software world is a much
more creative place than the hardware world."
