Greg, CNBC reports Cowen downgrades Dell and Microsoft.

Dell now 45 5/16 by 44 7/8. Where it was before CNBC reported.

Greg,

Personally, I am placing my bet on the 3COM-QCOM pair (I use products by both companies and am very happy). I think 3COM's PalmOS (which is used in the PalmPilot) by the mere fact of being there first has a tremendous headstart as the comparative difference in size between the shareware lists for WindowsCE and PalmOS clearly demonstrate (analogous to Mac vs. Windows). Not to mention that it takes up less memory, hence is less expensive as the WindowsCE PDAs need at least 2 MB more (which is a significant percentage difference in that price range). I must confess that I haven't checked Psion's product out yet, only read and heard a lot about them. And CDMA seems to be the clear winner of all digital protocols.

With digital networks, connection prices have already been dropping. I now pay 1/6 of the per minute charges I used to pay 5 years back and that is also dropping. Iridium may cause these prices to drop even further (I have heard of international mobile calls at 4-5 cents a minute as targets when mass acceptance occurs). However, for true acceptance we need connectivity charges to 1-2 cents I think.

Exciting times!

-BGR.
