N2K Partners With Warlock Records to Create N-Coded
Music; Label to Release the Best in Jazz and Adult Urban
Music

PR Newswire - March 09, 1999 07:15

NEW YORK, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- N2K Inc. (Nasdaq: NTKI), a leading online music
e-commerce company operating Music Boulevard (www.musicblvd.com), has entered into a strategic
partnership with Warlock Records to create a new record label, N-Coded Music, that will focus on
jazz and adult urban music. The label will become home to many artists whose recordings had been
released on the N2K Encoded Music label, including Jonathan Butler, Candy Dulfer, Marcus Johnson,
T.S. Monk, and Arturo Sandoval. Later this year, the record label is also planning to release jazz group
Inner Shade's debut CD, which was produced by Incognito producer Bluey Maunick.

N-Coded Music will be headquartered in New York and Warlock Records President and Owner,
Adam Levy, will take over as President of the label. The partnership with Warlock Records and the
talent and experience of Adam Levy gives N-Coded Music artists the opportunity to take their music to
a wider audience. Levy has successfully guided the careers of the Warlock roster of urban and dance
artists including rap artist Trick Daddy and smooth jazz artist Kim Waters. For Warlock Records, this
strategic partnership will move the company into new genres of music and expand their role in the
marketplace. Warlock Records releases, including N-Coded Music releases, will be distributed through
RED distribution. Key executives from the N2K Encoded Music label will join N-Coded Music.

Bud Katzel has been appointed General Manager of the N-Coded Music label. A forty-year music
industry veteran, who was previously Sr. Vice President of Sales and Distribution at GRP Records,
Katzel began his relationship with N2K Inc. as a consultant and helped form the label structure of N2K
Encoded Music. Katzel later joined the label as a senior consultant for marketing, sales, and distribution.

Carl Griffin has been named Sr. Vice President of A&R. Griffin, previously Vice President of A&R at
GRP Records, joined N2K Encoded music in 1997 as Vice President of A&R. The label staff is
rounded out with the addition of Sandra Trim-DaCosta, Vice President of Artist and Product
Development, and Eulis Cathey, Vice President of Jazz and Urban Promotion, both formerly of N2K
Encoded Music since 1997. Trim-DaCosta formerly served as Vice President of Marketing at GRP
Records and Director of Marketing at Columbia Records. Cathey, who was recently honored with a
nomination for 1999 Gavin National Jazz Promotion Person of the Year, is a former National Director
of Jazz Promotion at Atlantic Records.

"In Adam, we have an experienced and creative partner that will work with the N-Coded Music staff to
really develop these artists and others to their fullest potential," said Jon Diamond, Vice Chairman and
CEO of N2K Inc. "This partnership with Warlock is an ideal situation for N2K because we've found a
partner who is focused on the record business who will continue to build on the success we have had
launching the label and thereby allowing us to devote our full attention to Music Boulevard, e-commerce
and the Internet."

"We are excited to continue the great work that N2K Encoded Music has already begun on signing and
developing talented artists," said Adam Levy, President and Owner, Warlock Records. "We are proud
to add N-Coded Music to the Warlock family and look forward to working with such a seasoned staff
and talented artists who will take Warlock beyond its current music sphere and boundaries to a new
level and greater market share."

N-Coded Music will open its doors with the talented and accomplished artists and respected staff that
earned N2K Encoded Music many honors and awards including Gavin's 1998 Smooth Jazz
Independent Label of the Year and a nomination for Gavin's 1999 Smooth Jazz Independent Label of
the Year. Among the top jazz artists working with the new label are T.S. Monk, Jonathan Butler, Arturo
Sandoval and Candy Dulfer.
