Sony Adopts SRS Labs' 3D Sound and TruSurround Technologies as Standards for
Their Digital Televisions

SANTA ANA, Calif., March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- SRS Labs, Inc. (Nasdaq: SRSL)
has increased its position as a premiere sound enhancement provider for the
HDTV marketplace. Through a long-standing relationship with Sony Electronics,
SRS Labs' 3D Sound and TruSurround technologies have been adopted as standard
features for Sony's state-of-the-art digital televisions. Recently announced
Sony television offerings enhanced with SRS technologies include the Wega,
Videoscope, and Trinitron product lines for both the US and European markets.
SRS Labs is known for its leadership in contemporary sound and voice
technologies.
"Sony has been a true bedrock for our Company," states Tom Yuen, Chairman
of SRS Labs. "They were the first manufacturer to support SRS 3D Sound and
sign a license agreement and over the years the relationship between Sony and
SRS Labs continues to grow stronger. Implementation of both SRS and our
virtual surround sound technology TruSurround in Sony's new digital television
products is particularly exciting for us, as it places our technologies in yet
another group of state-of-the-art products."
"We've been working to implement TruSurround in our digital television
lines since we began development of the products," explains Jim Palumbo, vice
president of Sony's Display Marketing Division. "Sony has been an avid
supporter of SRS technologies for over 10-years and we're very pleased with
the surround sound processing that TruSurround provides. Consumers will be
thrilled with the results of the superior sound quality they'll experience,
even if they're only using two speakers. TruSurround eliminates the speakers
as the point sources of sound and totally immerses the audience in vivid,
clear and lively surround sound."
Leading Sony's recent SRS-enhanced offerings is the company's
revolutionary FD Trinitron Wega HDTV set (KW-HD1). The widescreen TV has the
ability to decode all of the immediately available digital TV formats approved
by the Advanced Television Standard Committee (ATSC), displaying HDTV signals
at up to 1080I resolution. Sony has also implemented TruSurround and SRS 3D
Sound in the High-Performance FD Trinitron Wega KV-32FV1, KV-32XBR200,
KV-36FV1, and KV-36XBR200. Supporting the European market, Sony's 32FS60 and
29FS60 with TruSurround are scheduled for shipment in 1Q99. These are the
first TruSurround enhanced television products available in Europe.
In addition, SRS 3D Sound has been implemented in the Videoscope Big Screen
KP-61V45 and KP-53V45 televisions.

About SRS and TruSurround
With as few as two stereo speakers, SRS broadens the stereo sound image and
creates a powerful 3D sound experience from any mono or stereo signal.
Developed after years of research on the psychoacoustics of sound and the
dynamics of the human hearing system, SRS 3D Sound restores the audio realism
that is masked by traditional recording and playback techniques. With SRS,
the speakers are no longer the point source for sound. Instead, the music and
sound seem to fill the room, immersing the listener.
While SRS 3D sound deals with enhancement of a stereo or mono signal,
TruSurround takes advantage of the many new multi-channel audio sources for
music and film soundtracks such as DVD's Dolby Digital (AC-3) and Dolby Pro
Logic. For applications where only two speakers are available or feasible,
such as two speaker home theater systems, televisions and computers,
TruSurround provides a means of enjoying a surround sound experience from just
these two speakers. TruSurround re-mixes up to six channels of surround sound
information into a two-speaker output, while retaining all of the original
spatial information. The spatial cues and surround sound effects are
processed using psycho acoustic techniques, such that sound appears to come
from the sides of, and behind the listener.
