Do Enterprise Business Applications Solutions Work in Process Manufacturing? BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 8, 1999-- New Aberdeen Group Study Examines Which EBA Suppliers Can Meet the Complex Needs of Process Manufacturing In a report released today, Aberdeen Group reveals that many of the leading Enterprise Business Applications (EBA) suppliers to the process manufacturing industries who believe they have a foothold in the market, in fact, do not. While these suppliers have impressive customer lists in process manufacturing and run many business applications across those enterprises -- they are decidedly not running the process-specific applications. For process manufacturers, a well-chosen and integrated IT system can reduce order-through-delivery time, track products through production, and increase ROI by reducing cycle times and improving inventory management. However, according to the Aberdeen report, in the process manufacturing industries today, there is much in-house or implementer-provided product integration and many manufacturers are faced with multiple EBA systems, unintegrated and sometimes incompatible. "The single most important criteria for process manufacturers is the provision of very specific process-related features even at the expense of total ERP integration," according to Katherine Jones, report author and Senior Analyst. "The market is growing, especially mid-sized companies in need of advanced, industry- and process-specific IT solutions to gain a competitive stance. These manufacturers need to leave homegrown solutions behind and it is a challenge to find a process-specific, integrated solution to replace them. Generic ERP vendors are just beginning to realize that process manufacturing has very specific requirements generally not addressed in standard FI-HRMS-MM packages" The new 90-page report, entitled The "Process of Process": EBA in the Process Manufacturing Industries, explores the process manufacturing industries, their specific information technology (IT) needs and the suppliers that offer solutions. The report includes primary research and in-depth analysis about: --The major suppliers of EBA solutions to the process market: Baan; Infinium Software; Intentia International; J.D. Edwards; Marcam Solutions; Oracle; QAD, Inc; Ross Systems; SAP America; SCT; SSA Systems --The architecture, computer technology, and IT trends driving the process manufacturing industry --The market dynamics, size, and segmentation of the process manufacturing industries; --The primary distinctions, needs and challenges of process manufacturing --The factors critical to user success; and, --The factors critical to supplier success including the requirements for providers of enterprise applications for the process industries.
