ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 9, 1999--

Dell's Factory-Install of Interix Software Allows Customers
to Maintain UNIX Application Performance at Lower Hardware Cost

Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL.O), the world's leading
direct computer systems company, today announced availability of
Interix(tm) software from Softway Systems Inc. as a DellPlus
factory-install option on Dell Precision(tm) WorkStations.
Interix allows customers to run their UNIX applications
side-by-side with Windows(R) NT applications on the Intel processors
in Dell's workstation products.
Interix, which is a native UNIX subsystem, eases customer
migration from a proprietary UNIX/RISC environment to a more flexible
NT/Intel solution with no loss in application performance. Softway
Systems has entered into a long-term, binding agreement with The Open
Group, owners of the UNIX trademark, to certify Interix as a
fully-compliant UNIX product.
"Customers who are hesitant to move to the true open standards
provided by Dell now have one less reason to wait," said Linda
Hargrove, vice president, Dell Precision WorkStations. "As an example,
UNIX applications developed for Sun Microsystems' Solaris operating
system can now run on Dell Precision WorkStations with exceptional
performance, and at a lower cost per seat. Dell's factory-install
program allows customers to spend less time on system administration."
Dell shared the No. 1 position in the worldwide personal
workstation market for the 1998 calendar year(a).
Interix is available now as a factory-install option on all Dell
Precision WorkStations products initially in the United States, Canada
and Latin America. A full list of prices and configurations for these
systems can be found on the World Wide Web at

digital content creation (DCC), expert office, geographic information
systems (GIS), computer animation, software development and financial
analysis markets. Dell Precision WorkStations are designed to support
Windows(R) 2000.
All of Dell's workstation products are dual-processor-capable.
The Dell Precision WorkStation 210 and 410 are based on the Intel(R)
Pentium(R) II or Pentium III processor, and the Dell Precision
WorkStation 610 is based on the Intel Pentium II Xeon(tm) processor.
Dell's Global Alliance Program has built strategic alliances with
leading software application vendors, providing customers a full range
of business-critical solutions certified and factory-tested for its
Dell Precision WorkStations.
