ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 9, 1999--Dell Computer
Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL.O), the world's leading direct computer systems
company, said today it will offer Hewlett Packard's (NYSE:HWP.N) line of
printers and scanners to federal government customers through the
Government Services Administration's (GSA) Federal Supply Schedule.
The leading supplier of computer systems on the GSA schedule,
Dell(R) will now offer a wide variety of Hewlett Packard(R) products,
including the DeskJet(tm), OfficeJet(tm), LaserJet(tm) and Color
LaserJet printer families, ScanJet(tm) scanners, and accompanying
accessories and supplies including HP toner cartridges.
Federal market customers will benefit from the convenience of
purchasing Dell's full portfolio of desktop, portable, server, storage
and workstation products and HP printer and scanner products from the
GSA Schedule, the preferred purchasing vehicle of the federal
government.
"Dell is meeting Federal customer requirements for leading-edge
products at value prices by combining the efficiencies of both Dell's
direct-to-the-customer business model and the GSA schedule," said Ro
Parra, senior vice president and general manager, Dell Americas,
Public and International. "By offering a full range of Hewlett Packard
printers and scanners through the GSA Schedule, Dell is helping
improve the experience of federal purchasers, offering an expanded
line of products while creating greater efficiency in the procurement
process."
Today's announcement builds on a 1998 agreement in which Hewlett
Packard authorized Dell to sell its entire line of printers and
scanners to corporate customers in North America. This agreement,
formed as a part of both companies' continuing attention to customer
purchasing preferences, now enables Dell to offer Hewlett Packard
printers and scanners to large and small business, consumer and
public-sector customers.
"Dell's leadership in providing computer systems to the federal
government, combined with Hewlett Packard's position as the leading
supplier of hardcopy products worldwide, offers GSA purchasers a
superior value proposition from a single source," said Skip Trahern,
Hardcopy District Manager for the Federal Sales Organization at
Hewlett Packard. "Our ongoing relationship with Dell has been a solid
benefit to both companies and our mutual customers."
Ranked No. 125 among the Fortune 500 companies and No. 363 in the
Fortune Global 500, Dell Computer Corporation is the world's leading
direct computer systems company, based on revenues of $18.2 billion
for the past four quarters. Dell designs, manufactures and customizes
products and services to customer requirements and offers an extensive
selection of software and peripherals. Information on Dell and its

Mohan, I find it very strange that the history of upgrades and downgrades shows cowen downgrading Dell in March 1998 from strong buy to buy, but it doesn't show that they ever upgraded Dell back to a strong buy.
