This together with the fact that it happened suddenly with no configuration changes (hardware or software) means Diamond should at least swap the card for another, IMO. If your friend can beg or borrow another Viper, he should try it. If it works, at least he has the goods on Diamond. That behavior by Diamond is definitely a common problem. I'll never by anything from them again myself.
