Jason,

While CF looks good now for mp3 and stuff, recordable optical technology is advancing fast enough that CD rewriteables are now very affordable and will be the future. Just ask Iomega and the defunct Syquest. CF as I have been seeing recently is just a passing technology except for where extremely small size components is a requirement. Definitely not the case for walkman type devices and digital cameras. I used to think so but optical technology and IBM miniature HD has made me think differently. Technology changes so fast that it's hard to predict the longevity of any current technology but storage density, recordability, ease of use and cost per MB are key factors in storage technologies. CF in mass market products may not be the best at meeting these criteria.
One more thing. If Sony would alter their Minidisc recordables to handle mp3, and lower the prices, think about where RIO would be today.

Of course this is just my opinion. Not as long as before.
