Geez, Greg...WHY WASN'T SOMEONE INTERVIEWING US A COUPLE WEEKS AGO? (about the productivity issue?)..

They were too busy finding everyone they could who would say "PC box sales are going you-know-where...."

It's hard to deny that we are in (some sort of) new era...and to think, we have hardly even begun to use the internet..

Let me mention one additional thing....Many say that, because of the development of the internet, the average Joe has more financial information at his fingertips (PC) then the average stockbroker had 3 years ago (at his fingertips)...

Does this sort of thing appear in the "productivity" statistics...Of course not..Does it have a positive effect on the economy? Of course it does...Better information flows lead to better decisions concerning the allocation of capital...and, that, my friend, is enormously important...There are tons more examples one can list where the Internet is/will be helping the flow of information..and, thus, more efficient allocation of capital (not even going into productivity arguments)...

Uncle Alan loves to talk about the efficient allocation of capital..

greg...<ot>...re:productivity/inflation...

find it incredible that economists still "speculate", that the productivity gains come from technology....duh....

can't see the forest for the trees...or perhaps the desktop for the computer on it.....it is a brave new world...imagine belief in upward market trend when they comprehend the arcana of progress....

economists probably had the same consternation when the electric lamp was invented....thought it would never take the place of sunlight...

now where did i put my abacus...good luck! ed a.
