Re: the tape delay, I got a message from one of my quote providers that said that Worldcom was reporting major backbone outages, so that might have something to do with it, although I have not noticed any effect in either of my quote providers. Different topic: do these guests that appear on CNBC have promo agents? Each time I see one of the self-proclaimed gurus on CNBC, I turn the channel to CNNfn and the same guy is on there 1/2 hour later. It reminds me of actors making the rounds just prior to their movie being released, you'll see them on the Tonight Show, Letterman and Conan O'Brien all within 3 days. Today Burt Doman was on Squawk, now he's being interviewed on CNNfn. Perhaps when subscription levels go down, they have their "agent" call up CNBC and CNNfn and arrange for appearances to boost their biz. I see this happen all the time, and know it's not just coincidence that they show up for interviews at both stations the same day, then we don't hear from them for another year. If that's the case, it somewhat detracts from their credibility, since they will obviously say something outlandish to grab attention, and hence, boost newsletter sales. And on a final note, memo to the Power Lunch producers: Your show is generally boring enough. Is it really necessary to have daily call in shows with so-called financial planners? Stocks are moving up and down, big money is being made and lost, and yet we have to hear "Lou in Indiana" calling in and asking how to plan for his mentally retarded son's future. Then the planner extolls the future of life insurance. Big Yawn. Thank God for my remote and CNNfn.
