I agree 100%....The size of the retail market aside, the competition has to be killing them...the direct sales models (esp. internet based) and the catalog Companies are really putting the screws to them IMHO. (i.e. PC Connection....many of the people I know buy direct from these guys (esp big ticket items) because theres next day delivery and no sales tax...how does CPU compete with that...not to mention you don't have to show up at their stores and deal with sales people of questionable ability...). When you look at the comparative overhead in these operations (CPU vs PC Connection) and its impact on margins IMO its hard to see how a CPU will survive long term.
