>I hope you have not mistaken anything I've said to mean that I think blacks are "getting it too good".<

Absolutely not, my friend! Not at all. I am only sticking to the insinuation of the original point, a point submitted by someone other than you (I forget who – I think it was John Lacelle). The statement precipitating my response was "Ya know I get so sick of these "hate crimes" getting all this media attention. It is such a vile, politically correct charged media machine these days."

This person understandably seems frustrated concerning the nature of the attention of “hate crimes” against Blacks. He nevertheless in my opinion erred when in his frustration he implied these crimes received too much attention. It was against this error that I have lobbied. I think it more reasonable to demand that hate crimes against Whites receive equal treatment as those against Blacks. In this way crimes against all people that are committed purely on the basis of race will receive the denouncement they richly deserve.

>I'm aware of the tragic history of blacks in America. I am incensed by it too. I don't advocate ignoring history. I am interested in enhancing justice moving forward.<

With this I would agree. Now since you responded to my initial thrust against the notion of “hate crimes” against Blacks receiving too much attention, I have all this time thought you in agreement with my opponent. If you are, I would here agree with you adding that “enhancing justice and moving forward” would not be accomplished by lessening the focus on White on Black crimes, but rather by increasing the focus on Black on White crime.

When I argue a position, I try to remain on the point. I see sometimes people want to discuss other issues that I might at the time consider subsidiary to the point. Perhaps I should be flexible, but I find it hard when I do not sense a final resolution of the point of contention. Therefore I doggedly hammer the point until I get that resolution. (grin)

>I am getting lost in your rhetoric. Do you advocate hate crime laws or not?<

Now this was never the point of contention. The legal remedy of murder is quite another issue. Hate crime legislation is redundant. So I am against it. My point here has always been against the implication that White on Black crime gets too much attention. I think it does not (an I have stated why). I think the inequity in media reporting the problem we must assault.

>And do you really need to capitalize Black?<

No. Is there something wrong with it? I have always been under the impression that it was grammatically correct to capitalize groups such as Whites, Blacks, Hispanics (or Latinos), Jews, Indians and whatnot. Is this not correct?
