For what its worth, I can't believe INTC would do a deal for stock and then, shortly thereafter preannouce an earnings shortfall. I have to believe that Level 1 board would have been concerned about this and would have looked to INTC for some reassurance that the quarter was fine. Either way we will know soon enough. Furthermore we have heard from several fronts that INTC has not changed any guidance.

Last time Intel warned about their upside surprise on Nov 12, 1998 about 6 weeks before the end of 4th qtr. Now we are about 3 weeks away from end of 1st qtr.

Like Cramer said in one of his columns, now that we're in the "quiet period" before earnings (generally one month but it varies) speculators are free to spread whatever rumors/lies they want and the company can't respond. Look at when Kurlak usually issued his balls of sh^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hpearls of wisdom.
