Perhaps you should be more careful reading the data, or perhaps you read it but mistranslated it. IDC reported that "in a well established seasonal pattern" there was a 14.7% decline Q4 1998 to Q1 1999, not a comparison between Q4 98 vs Q4 99, which your post seems to imply. The item you did get correct was estimate for 14% increase in unit sales. Yes I did see 4.8% increase in dollar value of PC shipments, obviously ASP's will continue to decline. Which PC maker do you think is positioned to best take advantage of this "squeeze"? Good luck.

No wonder you don't like IDC research, you've got it all wrong.

The 14.7% sales decline is relative to Q4. There are not down relative to Q1 last year.

Once again, seasonality, a concept hard to understand around here.

But, I'll grant you this: I'm not impressed by a prediction of 4.6% in revenue increase for 99.

Earlie, It is sad to see somebody like Devil's Advocate taken in by forecasts like this when the news is so overwhelmingly negative. If unit sales are down 14.2% first quarter, what are revenues going to be? Does anyone think ASPs are not going down? <g> Bizarre.

Earlie, Are we looking at a different IDC announcement? I see where they said unit sales would be up 14.7% 1Q. If so, they are out to lunch, but I missed a negative comment.
