That is very cooool.

Hopefully they don't come to evaluate the kid's living space when deciding whether he merits a Merit.

Wow. Sounds like your son's school has its priorities straight. Congratulations to all the Westbrooks (except for the kitties, who are just babies, however.)

Yah, real cool. Now what does it mean to HIM?

I was a merit finalist. Nothing immediate, but it got me a school that I love (still) and jobs that don't suck. I suspect that he's not too sure about that stuff yet. Tell him how much it does for him and how PROUD you are and he'll hurl (figuratively speaking); tell him you're happy for him and he'll grunt (but be pleased). From my experience, the more understated, the better.

The school is using him; the administrators should be ashamed. I know WAY too much about that end of things. Sorry about the cynicism.
