Look they could have put in a strategy to second source the product.

Motorola wafer was/is available to them for capacity.

With their history of production screw ups would a SMART CEO not have put in a second source strategy - particularly when he had stated that was part of his vision to build a "virtual gorilla".

In fact one could argue that he should have known that there would be yield problems and planned accordingly.

Clearly the design engineers and the sales team have done great job.

Unfortunately the rest of the company from the top down has failed to execute a winning strategy to deliver the right speed grades at the right volumes.

And in terms of a 0.18 micron shrink I think the devices would yield in the 500-600Mhz range even without copper and would command high prices.
