Learned some interesting bits today.

Languages can be built up quickly for ASR, so counting the languages at Nuance vs Speechworks vs Lucent or others may have little meaning. I was told if the existing language data is available as it typically is, they can have a working model in 2 to 3 months.

There was recently talk about the NT platform and GM's perceived weakness vs using UNIX. Well, apparently, Dialogic on NT based systems are the foundation of products from General Magic, Webly, Mysphere from Mot, Edify and and Bell Atlantic. They are also all using Nuance ASR. Periphonics uses a Solaris based system with a Nuance speech engine. Edify and Periphonics are call centers, and don't know what Bell Atlantic is doing.

Mysphere is delayed, but may start trialing in 4 months.

Regards,

Mark
