Semicon Industries Resume Equipment Investment

03/09(È) 16:38

Leading domestic chip makers such as Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Electronics and Anam Semicon are reported to resume equipment investment including new production line installation which has been postponed for last several years due to the decline in the price of dynamic RAM.

Samsung Electronics plans to install 9 more production lines and start operating them at the end of the year. It also decided to upgrade the present 0.22 micron with 0.18 micron DRAM lines. The company will invest about $1.2 billion which is increased by 20% over last year.

Hyundai Electronics determined to continue the new plant install plan to the U.S. which has been put off for last 1 year. The company is reported to establish 300§® pilot lines to non-operating lines of LG Semicon.
Anam Semicon has developed the commercial production technology for 0.18 micron chips and is expected to resume the investment in this industry.
