Trident's chip is not at all competitive with NMGC.
Trident's chip ties the graphics processor to main
memory, while NMGC keeps the graphics memory
separate from main memory and puts both graphics memory
and graphics logic on the same chip. You don't
want your graphics memory accesses interfering with
main processor memory accesses. The Trident solution
can cause all sorts of bus conflict and battery life
problems that the consumer who knows what he is buying
will not want. They are competing in the low end,
where price is the major determinant and where margins
are thin. No worries to NMGC, who are sticking with
good margins in the mid-range category and dominating
the field.
