hi mike, try this link marketgems.com navigate thru and read some of this. especially concentrate on the Well Informed section. then you may think of subscribing if you haven't already done so. just by playing most of these picks, you will probably make money and as you get more savy, you'll begin to feel more confident. i'm new too and wonder some of those same things. i made a little over 1k yesterday on stocks i heard about here.

Hi Mike I've been following Jenna's thread for over a year now, and seriously since Sep 30/98. At that time I was overwhelmed and could not figure how they were seeing what I saw easily after the fact! I set out that I wanted to learn as much as I could in three months, It is now 6 months, I'm paper trading on my days off(shift worker). At this point, going thru a second earnings season I'm beginning to anticipate some plays(the fog lifts once in a while). Right now I paper trade 95% money trade 5%. As my experience grows the paper trading will decline but I can see now that it will never be zero as it is important to paper trade stocks that you are not familiar with before risking real cash.
