Bell ExpressVu tunes in 200,000 subscribers

Direct-to-home satellite TV company is now one of the top ten largest
multichannel service providers in Canada

TORONTO, March 5 /CNW/ - Bell ExpressVu, Canada's leading and fastest
growing direct-to-home satellite TV company, announced today it has signed up
more than 200,000 subscribers to its national digital television service. This
significant milestone now makes the company the seventh largest multichannel
service provider in Canada.
''In just 18 months since our service launched, we've surpassed our
expectations for subscribers and achieved exceptional levels of customer
satisfaction,'' said Michael Neuman, President and CEO of Bell ExpressVu.
''And now with more than 40 per cent of our subscribers coming from the urban
centres, it's clear Canadians are demanding a high quality digital television
service that delivers the best service, the most choice and more sports than
any other broadcast delivery service,'' Neuman added.
Of the company's 200,000 plus customers, an average of 75 per cent
subscribe to premium television services, which is at least seven times the
penetration of the same services on cable.
Bell ExpressVu also announced today that it expects to be in a position
to acquire additional transponders on Nimiq following its launch this spring,
which will give the company the ability to significantly expand its
programming line-up. Bell ExpressVu currently owns 17 transponders on Nimiq.
''Nimiq will dramatically change the face of Canadian television
broadcasting,'' said Neuman. ''We will significantly boost our digital quality
picture while expanding our service to include more pay-per-view and pay TV
(premium sports and movies), additional Canadian and U.S. specialty channels,
more ethnic and local programming, internet services and HDTV when
available,'' he added.
Bell ExpressVu is the leading and fastest growing direct-to-home
satellite television service in Canada. The company broadcasts a total of 140
digital video and music channels in central and eastern Canada and 113 digital
video and music channels in western Canada. The company's line-up includes the
best Canadian and U.S. networks and specialty channels, sports and
out-of-market programming.
