Steven:Here is more insight into the Dell/Amazon deal.

..........
That deal also marked a move toward the consumer market for Dell, which has traditionally focused on the business or corporate market. The Amazon link would seem to follow in that trend.

As it stands now the deal between Dell and Amazon consists merely of links to each other's sites, with no special technology or partnership beyond that. But both companies said they see this announcement as a first step in their relationship, although they would not say how.

"This really is just a statement of direction. This is a first step in what we think is an exciting opportunity, we can't talk about what they might be, and there's many that we haven't even dreamt up yet," said Paul Bell, senior vice president of the home and small business group at Dell.

But the Gigabuys store does present some possible areas of overlap between the two companies. While Amazon is limited to books, CDs and videos now, it has been experimenting with a "Shop the Web" store that uses comparison technology acquired with the company's purchase of Junglee Corp.

The executives would not speculate on how much traffic they expected to be driven between the two sites, and would not detail the financial breakdown of the deal.
