So, why did they decline to share their discussion with the rest of the world?

Happens all the time. While researching a story on PSFT, PSFT declined
to talk to me for a whole week but spent hours behind closed doors
with Soundview. And if you've ever spent any time inside IR at a company (not necessarily SAP), you know that favorite analysts get even more special treatment - such as the quarter's numbers before the official release. Asymmetric information? You bet. Illegal? You bet. On the bright side, even with all these benefits, analysts have not been proven any better than average at determining where any given stock is headed. And Buffett has noted that locating himself in Omaha Nebraska, away from Wall Street, has been a big asset.
