Ron, it's throwaway lines like this that make me doubt your sincerity. I travel fairly extensively and I assure you that prices in the US are not going down for most common items,

I'm sorry you feel that way. Prices on the CRB have been going down for the past several years. US farmers certainly would not agree with your perspective.

Whether or not we're seeing the benefits of those lower costs for raw materials in the final products we buy is a wholly other subject.
I know we're certainly seeing them at the gas pump and despite recent higher prices for energy, the API reports that there is still a significant glut of oil out there that may make this recent move a "head-fake".

Taxes also make a significant difference in the prices we pay from one area to another. Can't explain the difference in price for Orange Juice in Florida and W. Canada, but that is still only one component of the commodities market.

But the cost of imported commodities is certainly going up for those countries who have had to devalue their currencies. And those who produce them have to produce even more to maintain previous revenues streams, thus exacerbating the supply problem.
