$5 limit on margin is also a house rule. I used to be able to go long on margin at 4 1/8 at Waterhouse, although they changed that to 5 recently. I used to be able to short listed stocks at Datek at any price. One of my better shorts by % was a short of KRY at 1 1/16, covered it at 7/16 after the court ruled against them.
