Compaq has multiple distribution channels. You think Radio Shack guys are dumb. Try going to Compusa, high school boys with 10 closing lines.

I quizzed the guys at our Radio shack and they were smart enough to respond to their market. More key was their willingness to handle service for any Compaq machine. Valuable to tech green seniors.

Their Radio Shack relationship supports their ubiquitous "Compaq everywhere" concept.

A fellow like yourself, pounding on SI at 3pm may be smarter than the average bear when it comes to buying a computer.

I don't like the way CPQ machines build the video & sometimes the sound into the board.
You are talking about the presario consumer line. CPQ controls the costs by picking the set of stuff that hits the sweet spot and building that in volume.
Most models in the Deskpro lines do not have video and sound built in - some have 100Mb EtherNet built in but even that is not across the board. If you want flexibility you can get a Deskpro. But it is more expensive for the same package.
