When the Justice Department shyly turned away, the need arose for independent counsel to explore "Iraqgate." No way, said George Bush, already burned by a special prosecution of Iran-contra. His Attorney General instead used a patsy prosecutor until the Independent Counsel Act lapsed. Well known Marxist William Safire there. Truth and justice was a major concern in that little coda to Iran-contra, just as it was in Iran-contra itself.

brees, Lets face it. ATT General Janet "Stonewall" Reno is better at killing off cults and their leaders like the Branch Davidians of Waco, TX, than of running the US Department of Justice. Personally, I don't know why she is the last member of Clinton's Cabinet to continue to defend the guy. Maby its because he didn't tell her to go out onto the steps of the Whitehouse and lie for him. Who knows? Maby he has something on her...he does have an army of private investigators working for him. Perhaps Clinton, like Nixon, has begun to turn on his own Cabinet thinking that they were out to get him.
