Dow Jones Industrial Average Changes Components
March 12, 1997
Reflecting and symbolizing the changing world of business The Wall Street Journal announced today a change in the components of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, to become effective on Monday March 17.

The change will replace 4 companies in the 30 company average. The companies being removed from the average are Bethlehem Steel Corp., Texaco Inc., Westinghouse Electric Corp. and Woolworth Corp.. The companies added are Hewlett-Packard Co., Johnson & Johnson, Travelers Group Inc. and Wal Mart Stores Inc..

The Dow Jones Industrial Average, named after the Wall Street Journal's parent company, Dow Jones & Company is one of the mostly watched indices of the U.S. stock market. Changes to the Dow Jones average are decided by the editors of The Wall Street Journal.
