etailers (like amazon) do face the challenge of being disintermediated by bots...but they also may become the bots and disintermediate their current model into the new one

eventually every publisher can sell direct, ingram could sell direct also -- it's the wholesaler behind the scenes

the web naturally moves towards efficiencies -- that's why the old online services gave way to the tcp/ip protocol, more efficient

amazon makes money if it's smart by being a channel for entertainment offerings: books, music, videos and incremental marginable product sales

if amazon can create the efficient shopping experience then that's how it can produce earnings -- right now i think jeff bezos and crew are going for the fences, trying to own the shopping experience

i don't think they intended to but nobody else is stepping up to the plate to take that big of a swing

amazon could win by being an entertainment portal/community, the moving of merchandise is the hub of the action

amazon has to go after yahoo and aol, but be the "online shopping service" wrapping other services around that...aol and yahoo are using content to wrap shopping around -- effectively they are in the same business: getting repeat visitors/customers
