Sometimes I go whole hours at a time without thinking about California.

<<If you have to choose a state to characterize the US, California has to be it.>>

And the silicon valley is the most significant region of the State of California.

And your community is made up of the silicon valley elite.

And you personally are a model for them to live by.

Michelle I just realized, you are the Center of the Universe.

Michelle, I am so very sorry to tell you this, but in order to determine the character of the US, not only do we not have to choose just one state, but it would be silly to do so.

If size of the economy is the determining factor then the United States characterizes the rest of the world, from Ivory Coast, to Macedonia, to Kuala Lampur.

But really Michelle, posing California as the template for the rest of America does a disservice to a state that is perhaps more unlike the rest of the U.S. than any other state. Not to mention that California is no longer the cutting edge of new nation-wide phenomena that it used to be. I think the rest of the country started having second thoughts about it after the L.A. riots, the O.J. trial, the Menedez brothers, and Bay Watch.
