Your earning drop in ORCL is due to the split (3-2?) a week ago.

By the way, research data from Yahoo does not show what you are posting at all. Here is one for JBL for example. Shows consensus eps 7, 30, 60 and 90 days ago.

John - (...First Call earnings estimates were coming
down...)

If you are able to watch a particular company in detail over time, you will see that many of the individual estimates at any given point are not updated for months at a time, and this makes the consensus number very questionable. (and it also changes well behind the time of the causes and near to the next quarterly report). I suspect that if an analyst changes companies, his entries remain behind unchanged for months.

Regards, Don

John: I double checked Zacks and Baseline (has First call estimates), but only for IBM and ORCL. The following is the result. Although I have no idea what was the estimates 7 days ago.

Zacks and First Call(means)give the same earning estimates:
As of 3/7/99

ORCL Feb. 99 quarter 0.19
May 99 quarter 0.34

IBM March, 99 quarter 1.42
June, 99 quarter 1.72

John, I am ticked off about the lowered estimate on SLR. Now they will "make their number," instead of a 15% bust. Bummer, dude. <g>

John:

I do a similar check every month. Amazing isn't it, and it goes on month after month.

What a sick joke. Forecast big earnings out there on the horizon, and then snip away at them month after month as reality rears its ugly head.
Thanks for putting this on the thread.

Best, Earlie

John, please go to Yahoo and recheck your numbers. Every one of them is inaccurate. Not one of the stocks you mention has had a downward earnings revision.
