Does anyone have any opinion regarding Oracle's last quarter? Is there any expert analysis about revenue and sales growth etc? Thanks.

I just got back from ECO '99 (East Coast Oracle developer's conference) in Boston. The mood was very upbeat. There is a lot of interest in Oracle's application development tools (Oracle Developer) and the tone of the discussion has changed from "how do I use the tool" to "how do I manage development and deployment". It is no longer a question of whether or not to web deploy your applications. Now we are all working on finding the most effective way to get it done. If the 500 developers at the conference are a representative sample of the development community, client/server is dead, dead, dead.

I caught some of the messages on the thread (sorry I missed the fireworks <vbg>), and I asked about the number of consultants on the beach. The OCS (Oracle Consulting Services) people at the conference (ranging from Practice Managers all the way down the line) all said that there was no shortage of work, just a shortage of people with good Oracle skills.

Interest in Oracle 8i is huge. The product is shipping on Solaris and should be out on NT shortly. WebDB, a new product that allows web-based applications to be built through the use of re-entrant wizards (you can get all the way through, view the results, and then go back and change things) all within a browser was a big hit. About 50 people spent 4 hours this morning in a WebDB training class (myself included). We are planning on building a self-service membership application for the NY Oracle User's Group in WebDB and deploying it over the net. This product has real promise. The technically inclined can download a copy of the current beta version from Oracle's Technet (http://technet.oracle.com). I just completed my 39Mb download.

A nice upside surprise tomorrow would be icing on the cake.

Agreed- and probably drag the price back down quicker than a week. Reporting .19 would hammer us longs short-term.

However, just meeting est. doesn't seem likely given upside activities over this quarter (e.g. split, upside Larry E. blustering, other estimates) with a backdrop of exceeding est. over the last four quarters.

It's going to be very interesting to see how it plays out- can't hardly wait!

Orlando
